Treasure up Wisdom

Wisdom

My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; (Proverbs 2:1-10 ESV)

It is worth counting the cost of having godly wisdom. God’s Word gives us valuable words of wisdom that can keep us from going in places and speaking of things that can impact us greatly. Ask yourself “Where is my treasure stored up?” I am reminded of King Solomon and all the vast wealth that he had yet the one thing that he wanted the most was wisdom.

That impressed me.

When I came to read about him long ago I really don’t think that it hit me until a few years ago when I was really wanting more of the Lord in my life and seeking for His ways that were holy and righteous. It came to me like a panting deer in search of water. I wanted this wisdom. I needed this wisdom. So with that said I asked the Lord for it. I have been gifted with some great things from the Lord but I wanted this wisdom with all my heart. What a treasure indeed it has been in my life.

Let me share an excerpt from the Bible in regards to King Solomon request for wisdom….

Solomon’s Prayer for Wisdom

3 Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem. 2 The people were sacrificing at the high places, however, because no house had yet been built for the name of the Lord.

3 Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at the high places. 4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” 6 And Solomon said, “You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day. 7 And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in.8 And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. 9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

10 It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. 11 And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right,12 behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you.13 I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. 14 And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.” (1 Kings 3:1-14)

How does that grab you?

Now we may never mount up to become a king or queen somewhere but who we are in Christ Jesus is just as prestigious. Actually more prestigious in my opinion. In the Bible there were great rulers yet they went down in destruction. Having knowledge is one thing and yet having knowledge and wisdom is another. To have both is rewarding especially when they come from the Lord. Who wouldn’t want that? Acquiring these things are weighty, yes, but they are truly valuable. Indispensable.

The choices we make in life can cost us greatly. The path we take will lead us in a direction of good or evil. This is basic and fundamental information for all whether we are born again believers or not. Integrity is on the line. I choose the way of the Lord and I pray you do as well. We are human and we will make mistakes along the way but if we intently seek the Lord with all our hearts wanting His guidance for all that we say and do than let us go forward in His strength and power trusting that we will receive all that we ask for in His name.

Jesus tells us believers “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV)

Today I hope I have shared a word with you that makes you think. The Lord wants the best for us as His children. Will we choose to do right? Will we choose to make wise choices and use discernment on a daily basis? I pray so. May the Lord bless you this day.

Peace and love in Christ Jesus
