The Treasures of Wisdom

I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.“The  Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there  were no depths I was brought forth, When there  were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills, I was brought forth; While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, Or the primal dust of the world. When He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep, When He established the clouds above, When He strengthened the fountains of the deep, When He assigned to the sea its limit, So that the waters would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth, Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him, Rejoicing in His inhabited world, And my delight was with the sons of men.“Now therefore, listen to me, my children, For blessed are  those  who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, And do not disdain it. Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord ; But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who hate me love death.”(Proverbs 8:17‭, ‬22‭-‬36 NKJV)

A few days ago I was reading this chapter in the Book of Proverbs and I was totally drawn in.

Wisdom is far better than anything we desire or obtain. No riches, fame or glory can compare. That’s something deep to ponder. Just think about that for a moment.

Nothing is greater to have than wisdom. It can save us from many disasters that can be avoided. It can also bless us in ways we would not even expect. Anything is possible with the Lord when just adhere to his truths and ways . King Solomon asked for wisdom when the Lord appeared to him in a dream.

At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it  is this day. Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how  to go out or come in. And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.” (I Kings 3:5‭-‬14 NKJV)

C’mon now… he was just a kid! And he asked for wisdom?!! Just look at what the Lord did in his life. He gave him wisdom and some. A lot of it actually.

Who wouldn’t want godly wisdom? Well a foolish person wouldn’t of course. But really, who would not want wisdom. I personally asked the Lord for it. Not that I would obtain riches or anything but that I would have a mindset to live right, make decisions that were pleasing to Him, to be help to others any way that I could. It’s not about me. It’s about Him and I can’t see any other reason behind desiring to have it.

In the book of James he says: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.( James 1:5‭-‬8 ESV)

Stated in the passage above in Proverbs, Wisdom was already present before the world was formed. “The  Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth. Proverbs 8:22‭-‬23 NKJV

Are we making a connection here? Knowing what we know about the Father and what He had done with all that our minds can comprehend, wisdom existed. It already was! God had a master plan and his blueprints were ready to be put into motion. With that said, we have some pretty serious stuff going on. We have something to work with that’s worthwhile because it comes from above. This is godly wisdom. Not earthly. It’s already been approved by God to pass on to us if we desire to have it.

The Word tells to not be wise in our own eyes. (Proverbs 3:7, Romans 12:16) There is nothing profitable in worldly wisdom compared to what the Lord offers us. In this human flesh we reside in, the carnal thoughts that become lofty thinking that we know it all it can actually get us into trouble. We were born into sin and our flesh desires to do the opposite of the Spirit so we have to pray and fight and desire to do what right and holy.

Look at this:Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.(Isaiah 5:21 NIV)

When we start looking, examining and giving birth to worldly wisdom and taking our eyes off of what is right in the eyes of God we are setting ourselves up for trouble. Remember that the devil comes as an angel of light. He can make things appear like they are glitter and gold. Now I’m not blaming him for everything but what I am saying is that when we are not walking in the way of the Lord through his eyes and understanding, we give a foothold to the enemy to blind us to true wisdom that is from above. It’s not temporary. It’s everlasting from one generation to the next.

Thought I’d just share some thoughts on wisdom and my daily need of it for on this life journey of mine, I walk and stand in desperate need of Jesus. Dying to the flesh, dying to my way of thinking, knowing and understanding keeps me at the feet of the Savior.

He saved ME and he saved YOU. Let us not get it twisted for we can never ever save ourselves.

Choose today Wisdom that produces good fruit in your life. Look to the Lord for all your help, desires and needs. Watch, wait and see for He will provide.

Treasure up Wisdom

Wisdom

My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; (Proverbs 2:1-10 ESV)

It is worth counting the cost of having godly wisdom. God’s Word gives us valuable words of wisdom that can keep us from going in places and speaking of things that can impact us greatly. Ask yourself “Where is my treasure stored up?” I am reminded of King Solomon and all the vast wealth that he had yet the one thing that he wanted the most was wisdom.

That impressed me.

When I came to read about him long ago I really don’t think that it hit me until a few years ago when I was really wanting more of the Lord in my life and seeking for His ways that were holy and righteous. It came to me like a panting deer in search of water. I wanted this wisdom. I needed this wisdom. So with that said I asked the Lord for it. I have been gifted with some great things from the Lord but I wanted this wisdom with all my heart. What a treasure indeed it has been in my life.

Let me share an excerpt from the Bible in regards to King Solomon request for wisdom….

Solomon’s Prayer for Wisdom

3 Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem. 2 The people were sacrificing at the high places, however, because no house had yet been built for the name of the Lord.

3 Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at the high places. 4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” 6 And Solomon said, “You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day. 7 And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in.8 And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. 9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

10 It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. 11 And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right,12 behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you.13 I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. 14 And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.” (1 Kings 3:1-14)

How does that grab you?

Now we may never mount up to become a king or queen somewhere but who we are in Christ Jesus is just as prestigious. Actually more prestigious in my opinion. In the Bible there were great rulers yet they went down in destruction. Having knowledge is one thing and yet having knowledge and wisdom is another. To have both is rewarding especially when they come from the Lord. Who wouldn’t want that? Acquiring these things are weighty, yes, but they are truly valuable. Indispensable.

The choices we make in life can cost us greatly. The path we take will lead us in a direction of good or evil. This is basic and fundamental information for all whether we are born again believers or not. Integrity is on the line. I choose the way of the Lord and I pray you do as well. We are human and we will make mistakes along the way but if we intently seek the Lord with all our hearts wanting His guidance for all that we say and do than let us go forward in His strength and power trusting that we will receive all that we ask for in His name.

Jesus tells us believers “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV)

Today I hope I have shared a word with you that makes you think. The Lord wants the best for us as His children. Will we choose to do right? Will we choose to make wise choices and use discernment on a daily basis? I pray so. May the Lord bless you this day.

Peace and love in Christ Jesus
