Pride vs Prayer: Help! I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up.

Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18 HCSB)

Dear Reader,

I have but a short message for you today. It’s something to meditate on and worthy of calling on the Lord about.

“Where is your heart today? What thought pattern are you walking with?”

The Lord wants us to come to Him with a childlike faith believing Him for what we know He is able to carry out in our lives. Say if we do not know, then why not step out, call upon the name of the Lord to see and experience for ourselves that He is able to do exceedingly more than our minds can comprehend?

“Will you take matters into your own hands, give justification for your thoughts and reasoning which leads to action?”

Put away that haughty heart and tell our faithful Savior that you are standing in the need of prayer. Do not look to see what anyone else is doing or the lack thereof in their life. Look to Jesus because their downfall can keep you in the pits along with them.

Misery loves company.

As a child of The King, we are free. We do not have to live in emotional bondage over anything. We will experience valleys but we can have peace in the middle of dark days.

You have many who are willing to pray with you and for you. With Christ you do not have to walk alone.

Pride will deceive you and trip you up from receiving your blessing.

If you happen to trip and fall, I pray that it’s on your knees saying “It’s me, it’s me, it’s me O Lord standing in the need of prayer.”

My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise. (Psalm 51:17 NIV)

*I know there are many versions of this song you may have heard but I want you to meditate on the words and reflect on your life and where the Lord may or may not fit it. There’s no time like the present time to make a change for the good and edification of your soul. Peace and rest be with you all in Christ Jesus. God bless you and may you be encouraged this day.

    • Hello Noel! I am filled with joy over your words. Amen!! God DOES know what we need and it comes right on time.

      Blessings to you my friend!

  1. Thank you Terra and it is True, those who think they don’t need God will fall in a heap, not physically Hmmmm believe me I have done that a few times lately but Spiritually, when we try to live our Christian lives in our flesh, we will stumble and fall into sin but if we put our flesh to death through the empowering of The Holy Spirit as we choose to walk in His Fruit , Jesus will keep us strong and no Temptation to sin will be more then we can bear, Jesus is our Armour and only as He indwells us can we walk as He walked which is in Love and in Righteousness as we are being perfected in His Love.

Prayer can be in our head or our heart, when it’s in our heart, we are praying in the Heart of God too and He hears and answers, when it is in our head, we are praying in the flesh and our prayers will go unheard and unanswered, unless they are of repentance.

There are two types of Pride mentioned in the Scriptures ( see below )

We are to have Godly Pride not worldly pride , to have Godly Love for oneself is to take Pride in our position in Christ Jesus.

    What Worldly pride is…

Mark 7:22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

1 John 2:15- 17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the Pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

    What Godly Pride is …

Galatians 6: 4 Each one should understand their own actions. Then they can take Pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to others.

2 Corinthians 8:24 show these men the proof of your Love and the reason for our Pride in you, so that the Churches can see it.

2 Corinthians 5:11-12 Because we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. It is plain to God what we are, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. We are giving you an opportunity to take Pride in us not trying to commend ourselves again to you , so that you have an answer for those who take Pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart.

Romans 11:13b I take Pride in my Ministry.

As a Christian I also take Godly Pride in my Ministry to those who are in darkness, and rejoice with those who are not as I’m sure you do too Terra.

Christian Love from both of us – Anne

    • Hello Anne,

Thank you so much for all you’ve written especially adding the scriptures. I greatly appreciate your kindness and speaking truth. Keeping one and all I’m my prayers because we surely need The Lord and need not have a worldly pride that will not end up well for our benefit. Many blessings to you and Ron….
