I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, When there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills, I was brought forth; While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, Or the primal dust of the world. When He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep, When He established the clouds above, When He strengthened the fountains of the deep, When He assigned to the sea its limit, So that the waters would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth, Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him, Rejoicing in His inhabited world, And my delight was with the sons of men.“Now therefore, listen to me, my children, For blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, And do not disdain it. Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord ; But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who hate me love death.”(Proverbs 8:17, 22-36 NKJV)
A few days ago I was reading this chapter in the Book of Proverbs and I was totally drawn in.
Wisdom is far better than anything we desire or obtain. No riches, fame or glory can compare. That’s something deep to ponder. Just think about that for a moment.
Nothing is greater to have than wisdom. It can save us from many disasters that can be avoided. It can also bless us in ways we would not even expect. Anything is possible with the Lord when just adhere to his truths and ways . King Solomon asked for wisdom when the Lord appeared to him in a dream.
At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.” (I Kings 3:5-14 NKJV)
C’mon now… he was just a kid! And he asked for wisdom?!! Just look at what the Lord did in his life. He gave him wisdom and some. A lot of it actually.
Who wouldn’t want godly wisdom? Well a foolish person wouldn’t of course. But really, who would not want wisdom. I personally asked the Lord for it. Not that I would obtain riches or anything but that I would have a mindset to live right, make decisions that were pleasing to Him, to be help to others any way that I could. It’s not about me. It’s about Him and I can’t see any other reason behind desiring to have it.
In the book of James he says: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.( James 1:5-8 ESV)
Stated in the passage above in Proverbs, Wisdom was already present before the world was formed. “The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth. Proverbs 8:22-23 NKJV
Are we making a connection here? Knowing what we know about the Father and what He had done with all that our minds can comprehend, wisdom existed. It already was! God had a master plan and his blueprints were ready to be put into motion. With that said, we have some pretty serious stuff going on. We have something to work with that’s worthwhile because it comes from above. This is godly wisdom. Not earthly. It’s already been approved by God to pass on to us if we desire to have it.
The Word tells to not be wise in our own eyes. (Proverbs 3:7, Romans 12:16) There is nothing profitable in worldly wisdom compared to what the Lord offers us. In this human flesh we reside in, the carnal thoughts that become lofty thinking that we know it all it can actually get us into trouble. We were born into sin and our flesh desires to do the opposite of the Spirit so we have to pray and fight and desire to do what right and holy.
Look at this:Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.(Isaiah 5:21 NIV)
When we start looking, examining and giving birth to worldly wisdom and taking our eyes off of what is right in the eyes of God we are setting ourselves up for trouble. Remember that the devil comes as an angel of light. He can make things appear like they are glitter and gold. Now I’m not blaming him for everything but what I am saying is that when we are not walking in the way of the Lord through his eyes and understanding, we give a foothold to the enemy to blind us to true wisdom that is from above. It’s not temporary. It’s everlasting from one generation to the next.
Thought I’d just share some thoughts on wisdom and my daily need of it for on this life journey of mine, I walk and stand in desperate need of Jesus. Dying to the flesh, dying to my way of thinking, knowing and understanding keeps me at the feet of the Savior.
He saved ME and he saved YOU. Let us not get it twisted for we can never ever save ourselves.
Choose today Wisdom that produces good fruit in your life. Look to the Lord for all your help, desires and needs. Watch, wait and see for He will provide.
