At His Feet : A time of prayer

image

O Lord , You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. For there  is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord , You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are  there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to  You.
Psalms 139:1-12 NKJV

It’s the beginning of a new year and I am so thankful to the Lord that I’m here yet another day. Here for a purpose greater than my own thinking can imagine. You too.

We’ve all had our share of joys and sorrows, defeats and victories, open doors as well as closed ones, storms and sunny days.  So while there may have been times when we have wanted to throw in the towel and give up, the Lord didn’t. He knows that we can make it. Just another little push to encourage the heart to keep going.

At. His. Feet. (sigh)

Prayer time because we need You Lord. All day every day. Emotions come and go and there is no surety that we are right but we can stand assured knowing that God is right. All the time.

Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21 NKJV

At His feet when decisions are needed to be made, but most importantly to desire to draw closer to Him. He’s the lover of our souls, the I Am who’s able to meet us right where we are and talk. To hear us out as we also take the time to hear Him.

No greater friend we have than in He. The Lord is not just anyone. He’s our Father, Daddy, Jehovah Jireh (our Provider ), Counselor, Peace – maker, Creator and our all in all just to name a few.

While 2015 has had its share of trials we can rest assure that coming into 2016 that the Lord is still beside us. Still wanting us, desiring intimacy with us, still patient and loving as we long to have brighter days attempting to do this life on our own terms at times. He knows us better than we know ourselves so how about a new change this year?

Less of self and more of Him.

At His feet praying and drawing near.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8a)

Happy New Year to you dear reader. I pray that you take time daily to reflect on your life and how it’s being used for the glory of God. Some did not make it but we have been counted to be here for another day and with a greater purpose than just coasting through it. The Lord loves you more than you can ever know. May the passing days be filled with love, mercy, hope, grace, perseverance, and all things related to the Fruits of the Spirit so that we can not only show the Love of Christ to others but to be a living example of His presence and faithfulness. Prayer is key these days more than ever. Much can be accomplished when we do it.

Be blessed, encouraged and filled with His joy always,

Terra 🌼

Reckless Abandon

Living Simply in Abundance

………………. reckless abandonment.

The exact words quenched my thirsty soul as if I was walking through a desert in search of water.

I found it. Or rather it found me in an email. Can you believe that?!! God has his own ways of getting our attention. Sometimes the most obvious ways I still  don’t catch onto for some reason. I can say that I’m so glad that He doesn’t give up flagging me down.

For a while now I’ve been in prayer about some things seemingly never getting a reply. Countless times it’s been “God, here I am again asking for an answer” in so many words. No reply.

Time passes by, events occur and seasons change in a spiritual sense and yet I still kept asking. Not like an annoying bee buzzing around His face but like a child in need of answers that the heart is longing for. The ache just wouldn’t go away.

“Daddy, Abba Father do you hear me?”

Slowly my questions are being answered. Then again perhaps I missed some that were already answered but I became distracted by other things while in wait.

How easily I allowed myself to get distracted and caught up. Ugh. Frustration showed it’s ugly head and I struggled with sleeping, thinking and emotionally functioning. The problem is that I went down the wrong path in waiting. Shame on me.

Believe me when I say that I don’t always get it right but I thank the Lord for His indispensable grace. I thank him for patiently waiting on his child to get back on track. To get my focus back in line.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105 KJV

Now it’s not that I have not been reading my Bible or praying because I have. My focus had been more on the storms than on the One Who calms the storm. (what revelation as I write this. Wow. Thank you Holy Spirit)

Reckless abandon to the Almighty in all my ways. I throw up my hands without a care for the opinions and thoughts of others simply because my loyalty should be to Him, his thoughts and desires for my life. I am to please Him. Not man. My worship, my praise, my prayer and my direction has been thrown into the loving arms of the Savior who beckons the call to my obedience. Whatever He says I’ll do. (prayerfully I am listening carefully and also obeying at all times)

Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily  at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord. Proverbs 8:32-36.

By no other means can I get to the Father except through Christ. By no greater means can I be comforted and guided than by the Holy Spirit. I stand in need at all times. May I never forget that.

Reckless abandon and feeling relieved.

Is this your story or can you relate? Dear heart I encourage you on in prayer to be relentless, to have reckless abandonment to the Lord in all your ways. He knows that we will struggle, that we will fall, become discouraged and even tire while waiting but in doing so I rather we err on the side of the Lord than to fall into complete sin never giving an ounce of faith or a seed of hope to He who is able to supply all of our needs. God will not leave or nor forsake us. It’s in the waiting that we grow and our intimacy can grow stronger if we just hold on and don’t give up. These last days are so important. Will we continue to trust and believe that His timing and answers are right for us.  He knows what we need and when we need it. Keep holding on and stay steadfast in prayer.

Life Withers and Issues Fade Except The Word of God

The Lord is Everywhere

I Peter 1:22-25 NKJV

Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

Do we recognize that God is everywhere and in all things? He is the Creator of heaven and earth and all things in it.

This morning when I was reading a devotional plan that I follow on YouVersion called “Now Is The Time: Acts Adult Journey” today’s devotional sat a little deep with me today. It really gave me a lot to think about.

Do our words and actions seem fit for the Holy One that surrounds us? The scripture for this Bible reading was Acts chapter 7. (Stephen was stoned to death for speaking truth.) At the end of the reading a reflection and respond was posed:

REFLECT :

Where do you think God dwells? In church buildings or in the whole universe—including the places where you live, labor, or enjoy leisure? Can we feel God’s presence everywhere? Can we be faithful anywhere?

RESPOND:

Ask God to help you acknowledge him wherever you are, and to be faithful to him. In four different places today, thank God that it is his space—God’s Personal Space (GPS). You do not need to close your eyes to tell him. Take a moment to share this divine experience with others!

Gracious God, thank you that my family, friends, and I are all in your personal space. Please help me to know your personal presence – your GPS – as did Abraham, Joseph, Moses, David, Stephen and so many other men and women.

While I was beginning to feel some kind of way as my morning progressed I went outside to pull weeds. ( I tend do a lot of thinking outdoors for various reasons and to also capture a pic of a butterfly if possible ) Anyways, I walked up the driveway to clean out another flower bed and noticed an overgrown lawn since the neighbors moved out. The real estate company has not been by to maintain the grass. I digress.

The pretty yellow and tall standing dandelions setting against the sky……..

Amazing

Breathtaking

GOD IS IN EVERYTHING.

His presence surrounds me and I’m feeling it in this very moment. It washes away the thoughts of things bothering me. Loving that sibling in the Lord that’s hard to love, putting another kid through college this coming fall as well as accepting the fact that my nest of 5 children will go down to 3, the heartache I bear of knowing that my very best friend lost her mother over the weekend and the list goes on and on.

“The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”

Life changes in some shape or form but God never does and neither does His Word. I can take hold of that and stand firm because it’s true. If I love and trust the Lord with all my heart and all my soul and all my mind and all my strength then I can follow through accordingly with all things. He’s there with me.

He’s present. Right here with me. And you.

Dear friends,  do you feel the presence of the Lord here with you today? Just take a look around and see Him. He’s there. How worthy He is to acknowledge and spend time with. God bless each and every heart this day.  I pray that you are encouraged today in some way. I know that I am.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord , my strength and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14

Lead Me O Lord: Starting Your Day in Jesus

image

Give me Jesus

You know… I just can’t go a day without Jesus in my life. Every aspect of it. I have been singing “How He Loves Us” by David Crowder Band since around 6 a.m. On repeat. Oh how my body cries out in adoration of the King. The lover of my soul. Sweet Jesus. Praises I will sing all my days.

Sometimes reading or drinking my tea is hard to do when all that my body and soul craves for is worship. All I want to do is lift up my hands and give Him the glory and honor, to stand in awe of my Savior because he is jealous for me and His love is abounding.

Psalms 143:8 NKJV
Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You.

Dear friends I encourage you today to give yourself in its entirety to the Lord. Allow Him to lead you and your day. Let His ways and thoughts become yours when you arise in the morning. If you accomplish nothing more than being before the Lord then you have done plenty. Too often we become consumed with this and that and forgetting about “the better part”. Spending time with I Am that I Am.

I tend to share often a scripture that I hold dear and it’s one that encourages me to see beyond my thoughts and plans because I know that God has far better for me. Plans that go beyond what I could imagine or see. He’s so amazing.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV

May today be a new day. One of better beginnings and endings. In Christ. We surely cannot go wrong…. I’ve tried Him for myself. Blessings and an abundance of love from me to you always.

Who’s Watching Over You?

image

Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord  is your keeper; The Lord  is  your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore. Psalm 121:4-8 NKJV

So…. who’s watching over you? Is it your alarm system with all the cameras and sirens, a guard dog or perhaps your weapon(s). Maybe it’s all of them.

Do you have more trust in those things than the Lord?

Now I am not taking away from the things that can protect us from intruders but where does our true trust lie? Manmade items (well God created the dogs) that can fail at any given time or the Lord who has the power to stop anyone or anything that threatens to take your life?

Above all I pray that it’s the Lord. I gave this some thought as I was walking back home with my daughter and her pet. We become so comfortable putting our trust in many things and people alike.

God watches over us with a careful eye. He does not slumber and he does not sleep. How about that. He’s our Protector 24/7. He does not take the night shift and sleeps when it’s someone else’s turn. There is no electricity and back-up generator hooked up to Him if his system fails. He doesn’t even have a weapon that requires bullets when it’s emptied.

He is our Refuge and Fortress. Tenderly and with much affection God watches over us. He has even given the angels responsibility  to watch over us.

Psalm 91:11 NIV
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

Though nothing in this life is guaranteed and we are all bound to leave at some point, remember that if you perish by the hand of evil, the soul cannot be killed. The Lord Jesus tells us:

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28

So wherever you are at this moment, take comfort in knowing that we live and serve a mighty God who takes notice all day long. He and his angels are concerned enough to watch over us every minute of the day and night.

May your sleep be peaceful and you rest well for God is……….. WATCHING OVER YOU.

“Father, I humbly come before You first giving honor and glory because You are worthy. I ask that Your people bow before You with all respect asking for forgiveness of their sins. May they take heart in knowing such truths about You. You are mighty to save. You are our greatest Protector. Our lives are in Your hands dear Lord. Please watch over every heart whether they see this message tonight or any given blessed day given to us. May the heavenly angels take charge guarding us and providing a hedge of protection. Let our faith and trust be placed more in You than in anything man can provide. With love in our hearts and peace within our minds cause us to rest in You and be assured that all is well. In wonderful name of Jesus I pray. Amen”

In the Morning When I Rise, Give Me Jesus

image

In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus.

There’s nothing that I can think of that’s better than this. While I am a tea lover and it sits so well with me and my quiet time before or after my family leaves for school and work…. I need Jesus.  I simply need Him to get my day started.

My beginning thoughts prep my day. Doesn’t yours?

Jesus himself on many occasions got up early to go pray. He proclaimed the Word of God to the people,  he healed the sick and done many miraculous things but he still took time away to pray. He gave The Father the firstfruits of the day. If He done it so should we. (Mark 1:35, Luke 5:16, 6:12 are a few examples)

Mark 1:35-38 NKJV
Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. And Simon and those who  were with Him searched for Him. When they found Him, they said to Him, “Everyone is looking for You.” But He said to them, “Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.”

As we should, we wake up saying our prayers and thanking the good Lord for blessing us to see another day as well as asking for forgiveness for whatever it may be we still need Him. We still are in desperate need of His presence when we arise.

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle. It’s easy to fall into our robotic ways of easing into our day but the question I pose to myself and to you is “Am I giving Him my first fruits? Am I choosing the better part?

Now don’t get me wrong! I’m not implying that we can’t have our morning cup of coffee (or tea) as we indulge in our time of devotional and Bible reading at the same time but have you ever thought about allowing His presence to soak deep within your being giving you strength and that invigorating shower of mercy and grace that falls fresh like rain when you arise first?

That kind of brew and jolt of amazing energy I have gained from being in His presence outdoes what I thought I could attain after having had my soothing and relaxing cup of tea.

He’s my cup of comfort that brings peace and settles my anxious thoughts about the new day that is set before me.

As I reflect and gaze upon the picture above that I had my daughter take early one morning this week as we headed into town I fell in awe of just how awesome God is. The Creator of heaven and earth blessed and breathed in me one more time. Seeing the sun rise in the astounding beauty that it holds, it let me know that no matter what the road ahead may look like He’s still in control. With that said I can continue to go forward because my God, your God is already there. Isn’t that wonderful? Oh yes it is.

Thank you Jesus for being there when I rise. My life and my thoughts are yours. Lead me into each and every given day that’s given to me. Bless me so that I may bless others. My Rock and my Fortress I just want to say Thank You. Amen.

Dear hearts, I pray this New Year that we choose the better part and better beginnings and endings to our days. However it is that the Lord leads you, follow Him. If the Holy Spirit is nudging your heart to get up earlier than you normally do, I encourage you to do so. I’ve learned along the way that the Lord wants to talk. We just never know what it is that He has to say. We may never know the importance of the early rise unless we are willing to get up. Just a tid bit of information I thought to share with you. God bless you….

Keep Holding on: Christ is our reason to persevere

image

Jesus Christ, our Solid Rock and stable foundation has given us every reason to keep the faith and to persevere. “He who promised is faithful.” He’s FAITHFUL!
Doesn’t that sound so good?. I don’t know about you but that revved my soul to press on even in tough times.

My God! I just thank You for such an encouraging word this day.

While it is easy to slack off from reading the Holy Word, praying and being in fellowship with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, we need it. We really do. Life can pass us by in a blink of an eye.

The Lord desires us to commune with Him and with others. We cannot stand on our own and we surely cannot make this journey without guidance,  encouragement,  hope and faith. We are in desperate need of His strength. We are in desperate need of Him.

Today’s scripture prompted a desire within me for I surely have slacked in being away from you all. While I have my church family here where I live, I desire to be in fellowship with you all and to do the Lord’s will and send a word of encouragement out to those who need it.

While I never want to walk in disobedience,  I still strive daily to do the Father’s business that is set before me. I’m far from perfect. I’ve been reminded that some things are only for a season. When it’s time to let go…. it’s time to let go and move forward.

Our journey may we require us to stop and rest (and witness) for a while in a particular place but soon it’s time to pack up and keep going for each man’s road is not the same though we are prayerfully still headed in the same direction.

What I’m saying is to not give up and do not be deterred.

Be blessed and bless others for the Lord has shown favor to you this day and remember to encourage someone for we never know just how much a kind word or act can affect ones life.

With love and prayers always,
Terra
