It Is Well with My Soul

………… It is well with my soul.

Words cannot begin to describe the depth of my pain. Grief is something else. We’ve all experienced it at some point in our lives but the only true and faithful foundation and anchor to get through it is Jesus Christ.

You can say what you believe all day long but living it is a test of your faith.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews‬ ‭11:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

My day came when my dear mother left this earth to go home to be with the Lord May 3, 2018. While it was no surprise to God it took my family and I for an unexpected ride. Life came and went by so quickly in the couple weeks that I went home to see about her. Little did I know that I was going home for reasons far bigger than I could ever imagine.

“For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”

‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭5:1-8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

He was preparing me for everything that I imagined and told myself that I didn’t ever want to do.

•watch my Mother take her last breath

•do all the necessary things like paperwork to get her ready for burial

•view her body up close in preparation for her Homegoing service

•bury her beneath the Earth’s soil in the very place I dislike going to. The cemetery.

But what I fail to concentrate on (getting better at doing it) is that “for a time such as this” He had me ministering to her while she was still alive. I practically lived at the hospital for 2wks. I made it my business to pray with her and over her, read the Bible to her and to play/sing praise and worship music. I did this every day. I didn’t know she was going to die. I just knew that she needed the Word instilled in her. It’s all I know to do when facing the unexpected. God is my hope and my strength day to day. Through the good and and the not so good days.

Every time she was being taken away for a procedure she would not let anyone wheel her away until I prayed. Her hope and her faith to get through it all was in God. I take comfort in knowing that I played a part in it because of my obedience to Him. It helped my mother during the roughest experience of her life. She could have easily told me to not pray anymore, to not speak of the God who was allowing her to go through such a painful time. But I can only imagine that she understood in that time that God sat and watched his one and only Son be tortured and crucified for all of the world’s sins. There was a purpose in the temporary pain. Jesus died so that we could live. He bore our sins and our afflictions on the Cross so that we could be set free.

I went back home to my own family just to turn back around 3 days later because things turned for the worse. While I can do away with technology some days I am so happy for it’s good use. On my way to the airport my niece FaceTime me because my mother was asking for me. She ended up in ICU. It was the last time I got to see her awake. It was the last time that I knew of that she could hear me tell her that I loved her and I prayed with her. By the time I made it home and up to the hospital she wasn’t responding to my voice or squeezing my hand anymore and yet I continue to pray, read and play worship music.

I was still believing God for the unexpected and yet I was okay if He decided to take her home. While it still hurts, while the tears still fall down my face, while I grieve with such an agonizing pain in my heart it is well with my soul.

So no more pain, no more suffering, no more condemnation in those who belong to Him. Though our earthly bodies will suffer it’s temporary. We all will leave this life in some way but in Him we take confidence that all will be made new in heaven. This is my confidence. This I hold to be true because God my Father who holds the world in his hands holds me and he holds you too. He will see us through.

This trying time could have made me turn my back on God but it didn’t. It helped me get through the darkest day of my life that I’ve experienced so far. For all that I’ve learned and read and lived on this Christian journey it has become even more real when facing such a hardship. Losing a parent is a hard pill to swallow. They played a part into you coming into this world.

I can only tell you my friend what got me through and is still getting me over the waves of grief that consume me at times. Faith, hope, and prayer. Jesus was right there crying with me and my family. He was right there as my mother went through so much pain until she made her transition from this life to her eternal home. He knows our pain and he knows our struggles personally. He lived it and because He trusted his Father we can do the same thing. It’s a choice.

It is well with my soul because I know that God is faithful and true. He is the God who cannot lie and keeps His promises. This is my story… this is my experience of going through the valley. The key word is through. A friend shared that with me. It’s not a permanent destination. We are passing by and through with expectancy to come out.

I can only hope and pray that my words no matter how the flow of sharing differs from my other posts touches your heart and brings some sense of peace and encouragement if you’ve lost a loved one or come at a time when you will experience it. It’s taken me while to write. I’ve started and stopped. Deleted and tried to ignore and avoid. Grief goes deep but if sharing helps someone else I want to fight through it, wipe my tears away and type. This is where I am and this is my truth.

Be blessed, be encouraged and keep hope even when it seems like it’s fading. God can do all things but fail.

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.””

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭31:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

* the song Even If by MercyMe connected to my heart before I knew what was about to take place. I don’t believe in coincidence. I believe that God orchestrated it. All of it. How can I not thank Him for it. Even through pain and loss He has a plan.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11-13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Crawl,Walk & Run: Thirst for the Lord with all that you have

screenshot_20161128-073204.jpg

There is never a day I want to go not thirsty for my God. I NEED Him everyday, every minute and second. I wake up needing guidance and encouragement for my day ahead for I do not know what all lies ahead. I need my spirit man to be lined up with His. How to walk, talk, teach, love, lead, encourage, pray, listen. I want to be more like Jesus. How I feel like crying right now… not out of sadness but out of love and desperation to keep Him near me. To commune with Him.

Crawl, walk and run……

I praise the Lord for you all that are living and breathing. Today is a new day to make better choices, to give one’s life for Him, to turn back to Him if you’ve strayed away, to forgive someone and to be forgiven. It’s a new day with endless possibilities all because the Father above breathed life into you on this very day for a purpose.

Crawl, walk and run….

Will you seek Him out? Will you take every measure you can to allow your soul to be watered and revived? God bless you today dear hearts. Be encouraged with this life you have. The Lord awaits your presence to spend time with Him. Give Him glory and honor. Allow His very presence to fill you up to the point that it overflows. Doing so, the love of God pours out to the person next to you and next to them. Prayerfully many will partake and be filled too.

There will always be something different about that person who loves the Lord and seeks Him out. That something will cause others to wonder what and why and how about you. That sweet fragrance name is: Jesus. I want that sweet smelling fragrance to be poured all over me. I want my life to reflect Him and his love.

Don’t you? However you can get there just get there. Don’t allow anything or anyone to hold you back.

Crawl. Walk. Run.

Living Simply in Abundance

wp-image-906089345jpg.jpg

Me. Jesus. Prayer. Green Tea.

Living Simply in Abundance with the Lord. Nothing complicated at all. Cast your cares aside and share some much needed time with Him.

Watch, listen tentatively and be still.

Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You.
Ps 143:8 NKJV

Exhale right now… everything else will still be there. Quiet the busyness spinning through your head.

At the end of the day (or your time set aside to spend with Him) you will realize that you actually had all that you needed to get your day started. Every little thing after that will just fit into your day as planned when He’s put first on the schedule.

Have a wonderful day in Jesus from my heart to yours,

Lawful Yet Not Profitable

Just because something is technically legal doesn’t mean that it’s spiritually appropriate. If I went around doing whatever I thought I could get by with, I’d be a slave to my whims. You know the old saying, “First you eat to live, and then you live to eat”? Well, it may be true that the body is only a temporary thing, but that’s no excuse for stuffing your body with food, or indulging it with sex. Since the Master honors you with a body, honor him with your body! God honored the Master’s body by raising it from the grave. He’ll treat yours with the same resurrection power. Until that time, remember that your bodies are created with the same dignity as the Master’s body. You wouldn’t take the Master’s body off to a whorehouse, would you? I should hope not. 1 Corinthians 6:12‭-‬15 MSG

If this isn’t a motivational, in your face truth, far from being sugar-coated, love-you-with-all-my-heart set of life giving words inspired by the Father then I don’t know what is.
Wow.

The daily devotional I am reading called Soul Detox can be found on YouVersion if you care to take a look at it. While I normally read in the NKJV,  I do like to read what other versions say. The Message version above can’t get any more simple to understand.

The Apostle Paul writes that everything is permissible for him but not helpful or profitable. Let’s put it this way. Just because something is made available to us it doesn’t mean that it’s for us. The Lord will not be down our throats every second saying “yay or nay ” or “Hmm…. do you really think you should be eating this or doing that”. We should use wisdom in all that we do. This is a choice that we have. All things are lawful but are not edifying.
We have what’s called God’s “permissible will”. Do we just want to get by with that or are we seeking His perfect will? I personally want to honor the Lord with my body and my thinking. The Bible tells us:For as he thinks in his heart, so is he [in behavior–one who manipulates]. He says to you, “Eat and drink,” Yet his heart is not with you [but it is begrudging the cost]. Proverbs  23:7 AMP

Today I implore you to count the cost. For whatever it may be realize that there is a consequence behind it. I thank the Holy Spirit for placing this word upon my heart to share with you. I pray that you take it into account. My heart is for you and your well-being in Christ as it is for myself to live a life that’s pleasing and honorable before the Lord.

Be encouraged, blessed and stay  prayed up as you go into you day. Allow the Lord to order your steps. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead, guide and direct you in all that you think, say and do.

I love you but Jesus loves you more. He wants the best for you. ❤

When Change Comes a Knockin’

image

Hello there..

On this day that we are now in my heart feels inclined to share a message of encouragement with you. Do you mind? May it wrap around your heart with gentleness and love as it has mine. God is faithful to supply when we call upon Him.

Warmest regards from my heart to yours,
Terra

Cling to the Lord even through the tough times. Wow. This was so befitting today. Change is hard but needed at times. Just like the butterfly which was once a caterpillar, time and people change. Seasons change too. You can’t move forward while still looking back.

Let go and let God.

Sometimes we hold ourselves up from new beginnings or a new season because we cling to the familiar.

Earlier today I actually saw 2 swallowtail butterflies each time I went out the door. Once out the front door and then the back door. Isn’t that something?!!

There are times when the Lord will use the smallest things in nature or what we may not really pay attention to to get our attention.

For me right now in this new day that I am experiencing all I can say is “Thank You Lord for showing me. I hear you and I see what you are saying”

Dear hearts…. sometimes the blessing will come through the change if you are just willing to let change take its course.

Be encouraged in this new day, season and change that you are facing. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13 KJV❤

At His Feet : A time of prayer

image

O Lord , You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. For there  is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord , You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are  there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to  You.
Psalms 139:1-12 NKJV

It’s the beginning of a new year and I am so thankful to the Lord that I’m here yet another day. Here for a purpose greater than my own thinking can imagine. You too.

We’ve all had our share of joys and sorrows, defeats and victories, open doors as well as closed ones, storms and sunny days.  So while there may have been times when we have wanted to throw in the towel and give up, the Lord didn’t. He knows that we can make it. Just another little push to encourage the heart to keep going.

At. His. Feet. (sigh)

Prayer time because we need You Lord. All day every day. Emotions come and go and there is no surety that we are right but we can stand assured knowing that God is right. All the time.

Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21 NKJV

At His feet when decisions are needed to be made, but most importantly to desire to draw closer to Him. He’s the lover of our souls, the I Am who’s able to meet us right where we are and talk. To hear us out as we also take the time to hear Him.

No greater friend we have than in He. The Lord is not just anyone. He’s our Father, Daddy, Jehovah Jireh (our Provider ), Counselor, Peace – maker, Creator and our all in all just to name a few.

While 2015 has had its share of trials we can rest assure that coming into 2016 that the Lord is still beside us. Still wanting us, desiring intimacy with us, still patient and loving as we long to have brighter days attempting to do this life on our own terms at times. He knows us better than we know ourselves so how about a new change this year?

Less of self and more of Him.

At His feet praying and drawing near.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8a)

Happy New Year to you dear reader. I pray that you take time daily to reflect on your life and how it’s being used for the glory of God. Some did not make it but we have been counted to be here for another day and with a greater purpose than just coasting through it. The Lord loves you more than you can ever know. May the passing days be filled with love, mercy, hope, grace, perseverance, and all things related to the Fruits of the Spirit so that we can not only show the Love of Christ to others but to be a living example of His presence and faithfulness. Prayer is key these days more than ever. Much can be accomplished when we do it.

Be blessed, encouraged and filled with His joy always,

Terra 🌼
